How does Caffeinate Pro work?
The `caffeinate` command.

Built into MacOS is the caffeinate CLI. Caffeinate allows users to force aspects of the system to stay awake and running. Anyone can type `caffeinate` into the terminal - but who wants to do that every time you want it to run?

Terminal

Caffeinate Pro automates this process. By default, Caffeinate Pro will caffeinate your Mac while it is using an external power source and "decaffeinate" while on battery.

The handy manubar window gives easy access to adjust how Caffeinate Pro behaves. If you want to force your Mac to stay awake even while unplugged, you can do that. You can specify how long your Mac caffeinates based on the battery level.

What does `-dism` mean?

When running `caffeinate` in the terminal, you can add a dash and some letters after it. These letters change what is caffeinated.

  • `-d` prevents your display from turning off.
  • `-i` prevents idle sleep.
  • `-s` prevents system sleep, but only while plugged into AC.
  • `-m` prevents disc idle sleep.

You can adjust these options in Caffeinate Pro using the simple toggle system.
